Obstetrical Care

We understand that the birth of your child is one of the most important experiences of your life. We offer personalized, attentive care so we can meet your needs and work with you to achieve a healthy birth. You will have an opportunity at each visit to ask questions about your pregnancy and make choices about birth options. Your “significant other” or support person is welcome for all prenatal visits as well as at your birth, if you so choose. This philosophy is shared by Banner Desert Medical Center, which we use for all deliveries in our practice.

We encourage you to learn as much as possible about pregnancy and birth. You will be given a packet of childbirth information at your first visit, and additional booklets and resources are available in our office.

Prenatal Care

Routine prenatal care is an important part of a safe, comfortable pregnancy and the birth of a healthy baby. During a routine prenatal visit, you will be asked to provide a urine sample, followed by an examination and talking with the doctor about your health.

This is the usual schedule for your visits:

  • Once a month for the first 30 weeks of pregnancy
  • Every two weeks between weeks 30 & 36
  • Once a week after 36 weeks

Other laboratory tests, such as blood work and ultrasounds, will be discussed with you as they are needed.

Prenatal Health & Nutrition

When you are pregnant, you should be aware that almost everything that you take into your body affects your baby. You will be given information on a proper diet, as well as the things you should avoid. Please contact us if you have any questions about medications, foods, etc. We will be happy to advise you.

Childbirth Education Services

We encourage you and your delivery partner to participate in a childbirth education class. This can help increase your confidence in a safe and healthy birth. We have compiled a list of excellent childbirth classes and educators, and will discuss these with you so that you can make an informed choice. We also encourage you to take the childbirth education tour of  the obstetrical unit provided by Banner Desert Medical Center.
